Cole

This shouldn’t be a sad thing…

This really shouldn’t be a sad thing, but in a way it is.  Cole has become so obsessed with playing Uno with dad before going to bed that he has decided the fastest way to play is to completely take care of taking his vitamins, brushing his teeth, and taking a bath completely on his own!  He’s 4!  This isn’t supposed to happen yet…right?

However, when we stopped and thought about it, can this be such a bad thing?  It’s always been such a pain to drag Cole and Alex up to their bath and get them both ready (usually with a whole lot of messing around and delay in the process).  So perhaps there’s a silver lining in the fact that Cole’s decided he can do this all on his own.  Yes, we knew eventually he would do this, but I guess it just makes you realize how fast they grow up and how it seems it’s all happening too quickly.

The Christmas Program

AlexCole had his first preschool Christmas program.  All in all, it went fairly well.  However, we realized there are a few things to check and double check.  Apparently a boy about to go on stage has a bit of apprehension and possibly loses control of his bathroom urges or ability to voice an upcoming need.

So we get there and have a good time leading up to the program.  Cole and Alex were playing with all sorts of friends on the stage and Dad and Papa figuring out just the right camera angles and lighting.  Mom and Grandma talking and enjoying the evening.  The only one small issue we overlooked was hearing Steph yell over the stairs before we left ‘make sure and take Cole potty’…

Nobody heard her.

So Cole goes up at the appropriate time on stage and almost immediately is clearly and painfully uncomfortable.  Poor guy – all we can do is think why didn’t we take him potty???  However, he somehow put up with it until the end of song number 2 when Mom went up and pulled him out of line and took him to the bathroom.

Snowflake Lane

Whew – when it rains hard people don’t show up.

When we went to Snowflake Lane at the Bellevue Square last year it was so packed we actually started to worry for our safety.  This year, it was far better.  I’m sure it was mostly due to the heavy rain fall the night we went.  It was still busy but we were able to move around pretty easily.  Cole & Alex both seemed to like it.  Alex was so tired that I don’t think much of it sunk in – he stayed awake (not sure he could help it with the volume) but didn’t look excited about the whole thing.  Cole had some fun moments, dancing with the dog, pictures with the mouse, and dancing in the rain with mom.

Overall a great way to spend the evening (now Cole’s asking to go back).

Cole

A huge audience

Cole loves the organ.

He loves watching people play the organ, he loves listening to the organ, and he likes playing the keyboard (always set to organ).  So there’s a bit of fascination with anyone who can be up-front and play one.  This week Cole got a really special treat –  he got to actually sit up with Mr. Gary (Fresk).  Mr. Gary was just finishing his postlude, for which Mommy and Cole sit on the stairs directly below to watch “up close”. Right after the conclusion of the postlude as people are clapping, Mr. Gary motions Cole up to sit with him at the organ.  Cole, understandably, is so excited he can hardly walk over there. Mr. Gary then turned the volume WAY down and let Cole play some while people were leaving the sanctuary! .  To say Cole was excited is an understatement. Mom was afraid he would pee his pants…literally.

He was ecstatic! Thrilled! Amazed! and deliriously happy!

He’s riding a bike!

Cole’s riding a 2 wheel bike on his own!    Very proud day for us and for Cole.  Cole decided it was time to ride his bike so after a few weeks of practicing with a balance bike he asked to have his training wheels off.  One week later he’s riding on his own.  Good job buddy!
